Gender Diversity

I’ve used the term gender diversity to describe all gender identifications and expressions. In my experience raising a gender diverse child and talking with thousands of gender diverse kids and their families, I’ve found that terms like “gender variant”, “gender non-conforming” and even “transgender” don’t always fit what’s happening with these kids.

In a perfect world we wouldn’t have to even use the term “gender diversity”, but it’s a fact that our society is still learning the nuances of gender identity and expression; therefore, we need a way to describe the dynamic. I leave my mind open to the chance that our kids will either not want to label themselves at all or choose their own way of describing their journey. It’s up to them.

For now, I’ll refer to gender diversity and see what the future brings.

My husband & I are truly grateful for your leadership. We are the extremely proud parents of a seven year old son who as he puts it, “likes girl stuff.” He has taught us more than we can convey about gender identity, tolerance & acceptance. We are very fortunate to be surrounded with a loving family & community. Currently, a very dear friend is helping me create a support play group to help support gender diverse children, educate families & our community. I’d like to believe I have half the bravery my son & other children like him carry ~

    Deepest gratitude,
