Ms. Carr,
You are a loving, caring and wonderful mother. Your children are so lucky to have you, and you are lucky as well to have them in your life. I hope the best for you and your family.
MR
I appreciate that MR. I always say that my children teach me my most valuable life lessons. Being their mom is a gift and I never want to take it for granted. I am blessed. Thank you for reaching out and please keep in touch. Best- Jen
What a wonderful caring Mother you are! I wish that my own mother had been as kind and accomodating as you during my coming out years (I came out as gay in 1961 at the age of 14), instead of telling me that I “was nothing but a sick animal.” I wonder how my life would have been better had she been more kind to me. I hope that all works out for your daughter and your family.
Steve Davis
Dear Steve, Thank you for your kind words and for reaching out with your story. I cringed when I read your mother’s response. Words can sting more than a slap in the face sometimes, can’t they? I grew up with a parent who was very harsh in their criticisms and I like to think that it shaped me in many ways. Perhaps to be a more loving person or to strengthen my resolve to love myself unconditionally. I guess I like to see the silver lining in dark times in our lives. Nevertheless, our past shapes our future and it sounds like you have moved past those words and have gone on to love and support others in meaningful ways. Thank you. My Best- Jen
I recently attended a trans meeting in Chicago and it was heartwrenching. My daughter is 18 and desperately wants to transition to a male. We have just visited our family dr to check on availability of therapy available with our insurance. I think you are very brave to go on shows to talk about this issue because so many people think that this is a psychological disorder and that these transgendered people just need to be “fixed”. I truly believe that this is not a choice. Who would choose this?? Good luck to you and your daughter. Erin
Dear Erin- There are so many resources. Have you checked the Howard Brown Center? Center on Halsted? There are so many ways to find support in the Chicago area. It just takes a little time and a little effort. You sound like a loving parent. Let me know if there is any way I can help you. My Best, Jen
