Thank you so much for what you are doing. I grew up in rural Georgia and much of my life I didn’t know that being transsexual was even an option. I identify as a woman, but was born male, much like your daughter. I wish this book had been available when I was a kid because I might have found some hope for a happy life a long time ago. I’m now 25 years old and have started truly living my life again, having awakened from what I think of as a twelve to fifteen year continual nightmare. Even after I came out and started to try to work out my problems it took forever for me to be okay with who I am. What you’re doing could save hundreds of children in the future, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for you. Thank you so much.
Dear Alice- Thank you for sharing your story here. It makes all the difference. When I started writing the blog I thought about saving one child, keeping one family together and I still do. If we all can share out stories we’ll feel less alone in the world. Just knowing that someone else relates to you is a comforting thing. We can never truly understand another’s experience but we can relate in a loving way. I am so grateful you reached out because it reminds me of what I set out to do long ago and the mission that is still within my heart. My Best- Jen
Jen: Just borrowed your book from our local Transgender Counseling organization and read it to my daughter…She was amazed! She LOVED this book! She could soooo relate! It’s amazing to see a book that really speaks to our kids special journey. Thank you so much. My daughter was smiling, and laughing with absolute delight! “She’s a girl like me!”, and “the teacher is slow like other grownups” were among the comments made. (She still doesn’t really understand why grownups can’t just “get it” quickly.) My daughter transitioned 15 months ago. Thank you for your book. I will be sure to pass it along to others.
Dear Sharon, I can’t tell you how much that means to me to hear your story. I’m thrilled that another child can elate to Hope’s journey and feels good about seeing their story in a children’s book like so many others. Now our kids have a character they can relate to. Thank you for sharing that with me. I needed to hear that encouragement today!! Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. My Best- Jen
Thank you, thank you for taking a stand both for your daughter and for all humans. What you’re doing touches the very core of me. Hope is so incredibly fortunate, so very blessed to have chosen you as a parent. I pray every day that all children be given the chance to be who they are. Blessings to you.
Jen,
I just discovered this book, it is absolutely amazing! I am a therapist who works with transgendered individuals. This is amongst one of the top resources I will recommend! I look forward to your future books! This book will continue to make a difference in many people’s lives. Thank you.
